AMES, Iowa — When Iowa State’s Jared Homan walks on the court, his size alone makes him stand out.

Leave it to the 6-foot-10 center to make an even bigger statement before his final career game.

Homan walked on the court for the Cyclones’ senior night ceremonies accompanied by 10 family members, including his parents, brother’s family, two sisters and grandparents, and received a rousing ovation from the Iowa State fans, who had plenty more to cheer about Wednesday night at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones beat Missouri 67-49.

“We came out with the mentality that we needed a win on senior night,” said Homan, who finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Homan is Iowa State’s career leader in blocks and has totaled more than 1,000 points in his career.

Despite his storied career, Homan is glad it’s over.

“As much as I love playing here, I don’t want to play here again,” Homan said.

Damion Staple and Dave Braet were also recognized.

Staple, who transferred to Iowa State prior to his junior season, has almost doubled his scoring and rebounding averages this season. He had two points and four rebounds Wednesday.

Braet, a walk-on, has played three seasons and has seen limited action. On Wednesday he played 10 minutes and had two points.

“I’m really, really pleased for our seniors,” Iowa State coach Wayne Morgan said. “Staple, Homan and Braet mean a tremendous amount to the success of our program. It was a great senior night.”

JAMAICA JAM: The odds were good that a Jamaican native was going to win the opening tip of Wednesday’s game.

Missouri’s Kevin Young was frustrated it wasn’t him.

After exchanging a cordial handshake with his high school buddy, Staple won the opening tip despite giving up two inches to Young.

Both players hail from Kingston, Jamaica.

It was the second time this year Young, a junior, and Staple, a senior, squared off.

“We go way back,” Young said. “We’ve been playing for like seven years.”

STEALING THE SHOW: No basketball,Kaizer Chiefs shirt, and no record for that matter,Celtic shirt, is safe from Iowa State’s Curtis Stinson.

Stinson, a sophomore guard, is second in the Big 12 Conference in steals and moved into a tie for eighth for the school’s single season steals record with three more against Missouri.

With 62 on the year, he is four away from taking sole possession of fourth place.

BROKEN RECORD: In two minutes of action in the late half, Missouri’s Brian Dailey tried to impart on his teammates one of Quin Snyder’s keys for the past couple games.

Guarding Iowa State’s Tasheed Carr,Atletico Madrid shirt, Dailey keep saying “talk, talk,Newcastle United shirt, talk” to his teammates.

The talk Dailey was referring to was calling out screens and switches on the defensive end so as not to allow easy baskets.
